Studio One Folder Structure

Studio One Folder Structure

It is important to know where things are going in their folders. During installation, Studio One establishes your Documents folder as the default location for content. When you save a new Song, Studio One creates a new folder with the name you designate in Documents>Studio One>Songs.

Within that folder, you can find several additional files and folders - depending on where you are at in the process. The most common of these is described in greater detail below.

SONG (file) - The SONG file is a very small file that contains information about mix settings, view settings, and location of audio. It references other files located on your machine - specifically the Media folder described below.

Cache (folder) - This folder stores snapshots of edits as well as references to external files (not in the Media folder) that have been used in the SONG. It may have subfolders: Audio (references to external files) and Images (snapshots of edits).

History (folder) - By default, Studio One autosaves your work ever five minutes. In the History folder, you will find individual SONG files that represent the point in time when it was autosaved. If you happen to mess up something when recording or your computer crashes, you will never lose more than five minutes of work.

Media (folder) - Anything that is recorded or imported related to the current SONG. When recording your audiobook or voiceover, the raw audio is stored in this location. Do not delete anything from this folder.

Mixdown (folder) - When you export your audio, Studio One places the resulting audio file in the Mixdown folder.

NOTE: Not all folders exist immediately. Studio One creates each folder as it is required. For example, a Mixdown folder will not be created until you actually perform a mixdown.

Additionally, there are other folders that may be created when working on your project such as Bounces, Stems, and Samples.
