Update Your Template

Update Your Template

Occasionally, you’ll identify a “tweak” you’d like to make to your template. Oftentimes, it’s simply that you want to update the room tone reference you’re using in your layer. Here’s how to make that happen.

Get Started

Start with a new Song using the associated template:
    1. From the Start page, click on Create a New Song.
    2. From the New Song dialog, click on the User tab (if it’s not already there) to show your custom templates.
    3. Give your song a name (Optional). If you don’t plan on recording at this time, you can give it a throwaway name.
    4. Click OK.

Next, make any desired updates to your template. I have provided a handful of scenarios below.

Specific Scenarios

Room Tone

If you're updating the template to include a room tone file or other reference file, use the following additional steps. Studio One may tell you there is a broken association with the room tone file.

I encourage you to place the room tone file in the same folder as the template itself. Generally the path is Documents\StudioOne Sessions\templates\v4.

    1. When the Locate Missing Files dialog opens, click on Locate File
    2. Navigate to the folder in which you placed the room tone
    3. Click Open

Export Mixdown Dialog

If you'd like to establish default settings for the Export Mixdown dialog in your template - such as to define the format, export range, or options - use the following steps.

    1. Open the Export Mixdown dialog (Song>Export Mixdown OR keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd + E)
    2. Select the desired settings and press OK as if you are going to export the audio. Note: It is necessary to initiate the mixdown for Studio One to register the settings. There is no need to keep the resulting file. In fact, you can cancel the mixdown immediately after starting it.

Finish Up

Once you are updated the various options in your template, save them.

    1. File>Save As Template
    2. When the dialog opens, click on Replace Existing (lower left-hand corner)
    3. From the Open dialog, select your template and click Open
    4. From the Save As Template dialog, click OK
    5. Your template is updated
